Name: Fifth Annual Ark of Safety Forum ~ A Resource on Disaster Readiness
Date: November 17, 2017
Time: 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM PST
Event Description:
Senator Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) will partner with nonprofit Building Resilient Communities  to host the fifth annual “Ark of Safety Forum” on Friday, November 17, at the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino. This event is an opportunity for Inland Empire faith, community, business, and education leaders to come together to discuss how to make our houses of worship and neighborhoods safer.

“During emergency situations, we know there is often little time to gather resources and respond in the immediate aftermath,” said Morrell. “Houses of worship are in every neighborhood. They are at the forefront and can be instrumental in working with others on the ground to provide relief. I am grateful to Debra Williams and her efforts through Building Resilient Communities to partner together to create an emergency preparedness safety net for the Inland Empire.”

The free forum is open to the public and will include a focus on house of worship safety. At this year’s event, the Rancho Cucamonga unit of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District will present active shooter training with real-life scenarios and discussion.

Participants will also hear from one pastor about her experience during the recent shooting at North Park Elementary School in San Bernardino and what lessons can be learned from that event. Other presentations include ways in which congregations can best serve their surrounding communities in an emergency situation.

“In times like these, it is crucial that houses of worship be prepared to help when disaster strikes.  Many times the faith community is the first and the last to assist,” said Debra Williams, President of Building Resilient Communities.

The 2017 event will take place on Friday, November 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will be held at the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino, located at 1201 East Highland Avenue in San Bernardino. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.
